From homemade ice cream to a new kind of dessert company

Lean Creamery grew from a family tradition, years of experimenting in a home kitchen, and one persistent question: why should better nutrition require giving up the experience of real dessert?

The Lean Creamery story

Dessert came first

Founder Andrew Allen grew up in a family that took homemade ice cream seriously. His grandpa and uncles would compete over flavors, texture, and who could make the best batch. Ice cream was more than a treat. It was part of family gatherings, experimentation, and the fun of creating something people remembered.

Andrew carried that tradition into his own home. He made rich flavors with caramel swirls, fudge ribbons, strawberries, and real cheesecake pieces. For years, those desserts were occasional celebrations. During 12 years in the United States Air Force, staying in shape was part of the job, so indulgent ice cream stayed in its place.

After leaving the Air Force, Andrew bought a commercial-style soft serve machine for his kitchen. Suddenly, premium soft serve was not an occasional project. It was available whenever he wanted it. The machine made one thing very clear: he loved soft serve, but the usual nutrition profile did not fit the way he wanted to live.

He started testing protein versions, expecting that a few ingredient changes might solve the problem. They did not. The early batches were chalky, artificial, icy, or unmistakably like protein powder. Instead of accepting that result, Andrew kept rebuilding the formula around the qualities that made the original ice cream worth eating: smoothness, body, sweetness, creaminess, and a clean finish.

Lean Creamery was not created to make protein powder taste less bad. It was created to make dessert better.

1

The first protein versions failed

They had the nutrition Andrew wanted, but not the flavor, texture, or satisfaction that made them feel like real dessert.

2

Two years of testing followed

Hundreds of adjustments focused on protein hydration, sweetness, freezing behavior, mouthfeel, and the way each flavor finished on the palate.

3

The protein version became the favorite

As the formula improved, side-by-side tastings began producing an unexpected result: people often preferred the smoother texture and more satisfying mouthfeel of the protein soft serve over traditional soft serve.

4

A home recipe became a commercial system

The formula evolved into a shelf-stable Protein Dessert Mix that shops can combine with milk and run through their existing soft serve equipment.

The first public pilot is next

Lean Creamery plans to debut at Swirl It in Gilbert, Arizona, in November 2026, then expand to additional shops and launch its direct-to-consumer line in November.

Lean Creamery Protein Soft Serve
Our flagship dessert

Protein Soft Serve made for real dessert shops

Lean Creamery’s flagship product is high-protein soft serve served through participating soft serve and dessert shops. It is designed to deliver the familiar experience of a smooth, creamy swirl while offering high protein and no added sugar.

The goal is not to create a nutrition product that can barely pass as dessert. The goal is to create a dessert people genuinely crave and would choose even without reading the nutrition panel.

Our first public pilot begins in November 2026

Lean Creamery is preparing to launch its initial shop pilot at Swirl It in Gilbert, Arizona. This first location will let customers experience Lean Creamery Protein Soft Serve in a real dessert-shop setting and help us refine the program before expanding to additional shops.

Our direct-to-consumer Protein Dessert Mix line is also planned for November 2026, giving customers a way to create Lean Creamery desserts at home.

  • Prepared by shops using Lean Creamery Protein Dessert Mix and milk
  • Runs in existing commercial soft serve equipment
  • Built around smooth texture, rich flavor, and satisfying mouthfeel
  • High in protein with no added sugar
  • Created for customers who want dessert without the usual compromise

Our shelf-stable mixes make the experience practical for shop operators. They add milk, blend, allow the protein to hydrate, and freeze the mix according to their machine procedures.

The next chapter is no longer far away. The first Lean Creamery swirl is planned for Gilbert this November.

The mixes behind the experience

Protein Soft Serve is the flagship customer experience. Our packaged Protein Dessert Mix is the platform that makes it possible for soft serve shops to prepare Lean Creamery consistently using their existing equipment.

The same dessert-first mixes also give customers at home a flexible foundation for Ninja Creami recipes, frozen desserts, puddings, cheesecake-style desserts, and other high-protein creations.

Our direct-to-consumer launch is planned for November 2026 and will include Vanilla Protein Dessert Mix, Chocolate Protein Dessert Mix, and Fruit Topping Mix. Shop expansion will continue after the November pilot.
